The Meepo board that is by far the most popular and one of the most-wanted electric skateboards on the market is…
The electric Meepo V3 longboard.
What does everyone agree on? How do people who ride the board feel about it? What parts does it not have? Should I buy this or something different? Does it cost what it costs?
Don’t worry! I’ll be happy to answer any and all of your questions. Here is the best review of the Meepo V3 E-board you will ever read! Let’s get right into it!
What We Like!
1.Super Affordable Price
Electric skateboards cost a lot of money. That’s a fact, not an opinion. Top-of-the-line boards can cost up to $2,000, and custom-made boards can cost even more.
Meepo’s line of e-boards won’t hurt your wallet, which is good news.
The standard range of the Meepo V3 is 11 miles, and it costs $449. Many people would think the price is very fair given the specs and performance (I go more into this in the next subheading).
But if 11 miles isn’t enough for you, you can pay $599 to make your V3 have a range of 20 miles instead. Even though $150 is a lot, some people think it’s worth it.
I’m fine with 11 miles, unless you’re a serious e-boarder who rides all day on the weekends or goes to work or school further away.
The lower price is due to the fact that it was made in China. After all, making things overseas is a lot cheaper than making them here in the United States.
Not just Meepo is doing this, either. Chinese e-board companies like Ownboard, WowGo, and others are often just as cheap, and they compete hard with each other to keep prices low for customers.
Overall, the price is great, which makes this board one of the more popular options for people who want to start using electric skateboards.
2.Unparalleled Performance
What are the Meepo V3’s specs?
- top speed of 28 mph
- 11-mile range (standard battery), 20-mile range (extended battery)
- 30-degree incline rate
- 2 hours to charge (from 0-100 percent )
- 300lb / 136kg weight limit
- Regenerative brakes
- 38″ longboard deck with handle built in
When you look at the Meepo V3’s performance specs, it’s hard not to be impressed.
The board moves quickly, almost too quickly, which is something I’ll talk about in a bit. Two 540-watt motors give it a lot of power. They can push this board up a 30° hill.
In pro mode, which is the fastest speed mode, the board speeds up faster than in other modes. Daredevils will love this! I thought it moved quickly, which was great for long, open roads. It happened so fast that I could keep up with traffic.
In terms of speed modes, there are a total of 4. From what I’ve seen, the beginner mode gets you to about 14 mph, the medium mode to about 18 mph, the fast mode to about 22 mph, and the pro mode to 26 mph, but at that speed I felt very uneasy. Meepo does say that it can go as fast as 28 mph.
I was pretty blown away by how well the board worked in pro mode. Enjoy yourself, you speed demons!
The V3 also had no trouble going up a steep hill on my street, which was about 30 degrees or more.
Neighbors would be amazed as this man on a skateboard just glided up the hill. They probably didn’t know that my board was electric and had a motor, but it probably looked like I was riding a magic carpet.
In “pro mode,” the board easily climbed. On the way down, I used different kinds of brakes and the regenerative brakes even charged the battery. They won’t make your car go farther, but think of it as a little tune-up.
3.Make those muscles work!
Some flexibility never hurt anyone. And I think the deck has just the right amount of flex between too much and not enough.
The board isn’t so soft that you’re always bouncing on it, and it isn’t so stiff that you can’t move around on it.
The deck of the board is just right for any rider to enjoy and feel at ease. It gives you a lot of control in tight spaces and around turns.
4.Multiple Braking Levels
Tell a story.
I almost died the first time I rode an electric skateboard. I jumped on the board, but I didn’t have good balance, and the speed started to go up. I decided to slow down when I realized I was going a little too fast. I didn’t think to put the brake on slowly, like you would in a car. You don’t slam on the brakes hard unless something like a deer jumps out in front of you. When I slammed on the brakes, I flew off my board and landed right on the pavement. No injuries but a jarring experience. In the end, I learned something important (lol).
As I got better, I did learn to slow down when I used the brakes, but I thought the Meepo V3 took their technology to the next level.
The M4 remote lets you switch between 4 brake modes the same way it lets you switch between speed modes. How many e-boards that can do that do you know of!
These brake modes give you better control, with brake modes 1 and 2 made for new riders and riders with less experience. Levels 1 and 2 have easier-to-use and more sensitive brakes that let you stop smoothly.
Modes 3 and 4 were made for more experienced riders, so they brake much more quickly. At first, it can be a bit strong, but once you get used to it, you’ll like this method better.
Keep in mind that you can only change these brake modes when the board is at a complete stop, not while you are riding. To change braking modes, you have to press the function button while holding the brake (above the power button).
I can’t think of a lot of other brands that offer different ways to stop. This is a big plus for me when it comes to Meepo and the V3.
5.Futuristic Digital Remote
Meepo has made one of the best e-board remotes on the market, no doubt.
At first glance, it’s clear that the M4 remote is a big step up from its predecessor, the “MR Screen Remote.”
The M4 is made of better plastic and will last longer. The remote works well and is made to be one whole piece.
The older MR screen remote, on the other hand, is made of two separate pieces of plastic that are stitched together. There is a big difference in quality. You get a remote that is thicker, heavier, and feels more solid.
No one likes remotes that are very light and easy to break. Too often, if they fall on the ground, they break and chip. Not a problem for the M4.
The remote is also quite big, so your fingers won’t get in the way of the screen, which was a common problem with the MR that many riders didn’t like.
Since the screen is the main way information is sent back to the rider, it is important to have a screen that is bigger and easier to see.
Your Meepo V3 will come with the M4 remote in the box. No need to buy anything else. It lets you see and control many of your V3’s functions:
- Overall Speed and Mileage for V3
- Percentage of V3 batteries
- Speed Modes Based on Battery Percentage
- Brake Modes
- Current Trip Mileage Movement Direction (Forward or Backward)’
I also liked how well lit the screen was. Even on a sunny day, you can see all the numbers and letters because they are lit up.
You won’t have to work hard to figure out your speed or where you’re going. The M4’s screen shows all the functions and settings clearly and with a lot of brightness.
No need to worry! This remote is a+ material.
6.Handle Like A Briefcase
Okay, so it’s cool to ride an electric skateboard… but what does it do when you’re not on it?
Have you ever had to haul your electric skateboard up a long set of stairs? It’s boring.
A regular wooden skateboard and an electric one are very different in weight. Depending on the size of the battery and the motor, electric skateboards can weigh up to 25 pounds or more. Normal skateboards made of wood weigh no more than 10 pounds. The difference is that the board now has a battery and other electrical parts.
If the battery in your electric skateboard dies, you may have to carry it everywhere, which can be a real pain. (Don’t forget that you could just push it like you would a normal skateboard.)
The Meepo V3 has a handle built into the board’s deck, which is a good thing (unlike the OneWheel brand which requires you to buy a handle separately in order to carry your board around.)
With a handle, your board is 10 times easier to carry. So if you have to pick up your board and carry it for the next seven blocks, you won’t be in a lot of pain.
If the board doesn’t have a handle, you usually have to carry it by the trunks, which after just a minute not only feels very heavy but also hurts your grip and hands.
Think of it like carrying a briefcase or a duffel bag. Easy and straight to the point! A feature that most riders don’t give enough credit to.
Bad Things About the V3
1.Wheels and Noise
On flat surfaces and newly paved roads, the board rides very smoothly. However, you should be careful on rougher surfaces.
Even with the stock 90mm wheels, you may feel vibrations more than you’d like while riding.
It’s safe to say that the V3 is a street bike. The board’s deck is a little bit flexible, which is great for rougher terrain, but you might want to consider getting Meepo’s 100mm wheels for better suspension and more cushion.
Like most boards, you should stay away from roads with cracks and holes.
2.No resistance to water
Now, many of you agree that riding in the rain is not fun, but I’m still disappointed that the Meepo V3 doesn’t have any way to keep water out.
That means there’s no way to keep water out… So you should keep an eye on the weather.
You could kill your battery if you ride in the rain, especially if you splash through a big puddle.
I live in Connecticut, which gets everything that Mother Nature has to throw at it, from rain and snow to high temperatures. I’ve been on other e-boards while it was raining. Some were great, and others broke badly enough that I had to buy a new battery.
Lesson: Don’t ride the V3 when it’s raining. It’s also a shame because companies like MaxFind and Ownboard are making boards that are very resistant to water.
3.Going too fast
What!? How can being fast be bad? Everyone likes going fast! Whether you’re an adrenaline junkie or a racecar driver, pushing the throttle is the best way to get your blood pumping.
The Meepo has four different speeds to choose from: slow, medium, fast, and pro.
The pro level gives you a lot more speed than any other electric skateboard you’ve used. But it feels dangerous to push the limit on the board. Don’t forget that you’re on an electric skateboard. Your center of gravity is high because you are standing straight up.
With a top speed of 28 mph, all it takes is a small pebble or crack in the road to send you straight into the asphalt. Ouch! Most other e-boards have a top speed of 24 mph, which is plenty fast.
Anything more would be too much… Have you ever heard of a sports car that can go over 200 miles per hour? Even though it sounds cool, going that fast on a street or even a highway is dangerous and almost impossible.
The same is true of Meepo’s fastest speed. This isn’t always a bad thing. Just be careful.
4.Shipping
Since this is a Chinese brand, you already know the answer. China is where the Meepo V3 comes from. You know what that means, don’t you?
Long shipping times!
This is not two-day shipping from Amazon Prime. When you order a board, you may have to wait a while for it to arrive. Meepo says on its website that there are two ways to ship.
- Standard Shipping to USA: 25-35 days
- Expedited Shipping to USA: 8-16 days
But when I checked out, there was only one shipping option, which said it would take 3–10 business days. It’s safe to say that Meepo doesn’t know how to run their business.
After doing more research on Reddit and based on my own experience, I can tell you that customers in the United States should expect to wait about 3–4 weeks and customers in Europe should expect to wait even longer (up to 3 months).
If you need an electric skateboard quickly, you might want to buy one from a different company. For example, MaxFind, which is also a Chinese brand, has a warehouse in San Diego, California, which is in the United States. Usually, it takes between 3 and 5 days to ship to the US, and between 4 and 7 days to ship to Europe.
Warranty
Before you think this is a bad thing, don’t worry—this board is made very well. If you take care of it, it should last you for years.
What Are People Talking About? Another Look
Even if you don’t believe it, it’s hard to find a bad review of this board. So many people who ride electric skateboards love it. It’s well made so that both experienced and new riders can use it.
On the Meepo website, almost all of the reviews are 5/5 stars. It’s safe to say that Meepo played this game well.
Reviews on YouTube seem to agree that this is a low-cost, high-quality board that everyone will love.
How is the quality as a whole? Dependability?
I wanted to see how the board worked in two different situations.
- Low battery
- After 1 year of riding
In low battery situations, the board still performed with great success. However, everyone knows that a low battery is not as powerful as full charged battery. Just try it with your phone. When using my iPhone on low battery, I notice the phone isn’t as smooth and glitches. When fully charged, the thing works perfectly. The same can be said with any battery-powered electric skateboard, the Meepo V3 is no exception. Always fully charge your V3 when you can, and avoid leaving the house on low battery unless you know you can make it back (or you’re ok with carrying the board).
After 1 year of riding, I would like to direct you to this video of a YouTube account by the name of TechWrap Australia:
Competition?
While we can talk all day about the Meepo V3, it isn’t the only great electric skateboard out there.
Other Chinese brands like WowGo, MaxFind, and others are bringing heat to the scene. And it seems like every year, the competition just gets stiffer.
Here are just a few boards that may make you reconsider buying out for the V3.
WowGo 3
I’ve been a big proponent of WowGo since discovering the brand a few years back. Their most popular board (and cheapest) is the WowGo 3, coming in at a very solid price of $429.99, making it a hair cheaper than the Meepo V3.
The funny thing is these two boards offer very similar attributes, including their designs (both being longboards of 38” long).
WowGo 3 specs:
- 11 mile standard range
- 24 mph top speed
- 30 degree incline rate
I wouldn’t be surprised if Meepo and WowGo boards were made in the same factory and then slapped with their own logos.
You can’t really go wrong with any of them, but Meepo’s V3 is faster and has a handle, which are two good things that make a small but important difference.
MaxFind (Max 2 Pro & Max 4 Pro)
Check out my review of the Max 2 Pro, which goes into a lot more detail, for more information.
The Max 2 Pro is a board that is smaller, stiffer, and easier to carry. But its specs and price are about the same as the V3, which costs $499.
- 24 mph top speed
- 11 mile range
- 28 degree incline rate
- 31” deck
Now let’s look at the Max 4 Pro, pricier, but more powerful, costing you a minimum of $549.
- 25 mph top speed
- 12 mile range
- 30 degree incline rate
- 38” deck
MaxFind boards have always been really well made and had really sleek designs. With their diamond-cut decks and frames, they felt like the Rolls-Royce of e-boards. Overall, if you want to start e-skating, MaxFind is another great brand with fair prices.
Even more high-performance boards and drive kit series are available (which allow you to make any regular skateboard an electric one).
G2 Backfire
Backfire is a bigger and more well-known brand that a lot of riders may know more about.
At the moment, you can choose from a total of 9 different models. The Backfire G2 costs the least.
So why is the G2 thought of as a rival to the Meepo V3?
Even though it costs $429, it has the same performance and specs as:
- 24 mph top speed
- 11 mile range
- 38” flex deck
- Water and dust resistant
And the best part is that shipping is very fast! You can order your board online and get it in three to seven days. Much quicker than the weeks or months it will take to get a board from China.
The AEBoards (multiple models)
Last but not least is the AE brand, which has a wide range of boards that both beginners and experts should think about.
Before you buy the V3, here are some of their boards and how much they cost:
- AE2 – $399
- AF – 429
- AX Mini – $449
- AE3 – $439
- AX (street) – $399
What I like most about AE is that, like Meepo, it has different ways to stop for better control and safety.
They also sell for a low price two all-terrain models and more high-performance boards that can climb 35-degree slopes.
Is the V3 the best board for $400?
The bottom line is…
The Meepo V3 is a high-end board with a good price. Without a doubt, $450 is a fair price for all the performance and technology you get.
You won’t be let down by the Meepo V3, just like the thousands of other people who have bought it.
You can’t go wrong with the V3 because it’s fast and powerful, has a good range that can always be upgraded, and costs more than you’d expect.
But you should think about the competition. As the market for electric skateboards grows, more and more companies are making e-boards with great features at even lower prices. Some even sell drive kits that you can use to turn a regular wooden skateboard into an electric one.
